The Breath of the Ice Queen (Single)

about

I wrote this song about a walk in frozen Padley Gorge in the Dark Peak. I was at home in Ayrshire, enjoying my partner’s walk vicariously via photographs he was sending me, of frozen ferns, birch tangle and abandoned millstones along the gorge. I had been there a few weeks before with him and was imagining winter’s icy fingers changing the landscape. (Gayle).

lyrics

Winter’s veil falls over the land. The fingers of frost on a feather green hand. The birches lace a silvery sky. Where ravens are winging their croaking reply. The valley faded to russet and brown. Where icy veined leaves lie like feathery down. The tangle leads to the woodland edge. Where ruby-jewelled berries adorn the hedge. The fog it blankets the distant hill. The river’s the heart of the dale that beats still. The moss on the millstones of emerald so green. Will not escape the breath of the ice queen.
